Taco Seasoning Mix in bulk homemade.
If there is one thing that I don't like to do it is to purchase over priced seasoning mixes that are full of ingredients that just might make hair grow on your chest and your eyes cross.Make it from scratch carnival.

Taco Seasoning Mix in bulk homemade.
So I make my own in bulk to last for 2-3 months at a time. The packets are ? what $1. -1.50 each now? Let me show you a trick. No artificial preservatives here.
Taco Seasoning mix
1/4 cup dried chopped onion
1/8 cup sea salt
1/8 cup cayenne pepper (can use chili powder)
1/2 cup potato starch (can use corn starch or any other thickening agent)
1 tablespoon garlic power
1 1/4 cup dried oregano leaves
2 table spoons cumin
stir in bowl and then grind in pistil and mortar or food processor.
Seal it in a canister and use it up in 2-3 months
alter it to your preference.
You only need 2-3 tablespoons per 1 pound of ground beef
3, 8oz cans tomato sauce
taco shells
and fillings.
Last night Daddy Man and I were sharing concerns over snack time after school filling little tummies with junk and no room for nutrition. So the kids had a taco or two after school instead. Snacks after good food. Hubby encouraged feeding them while the appetite was there.3, 8oz cans tomato sauce
taco shells
and fillings.

Great idea.
This looks great! I love the idea of preparing ahead of time in bulk.
Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Sounds yummy!
I always have "real food" ready when the kids come home. They are usually just famished and if I feed a snack, then, as you said, they aren't hungry for dinner. I also love the idea of preparing your won spices/mixes. I do this all the time. So much cheaper and I can put a little more of this or less of that; to our taste!
Wow - this sounds like a great way to save money. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!
Great idea for MIFS taco seasoning. I must give this a try. I love the frugal idea of making it myself and saving money.
Why not take it even a step further? The notion that you need 'taco seasoning mix' comes from people selling 'taco seasoning mix'. Use real onion when you saute the meat - just wait till some of the fat has coated the pan to add the onion. Over-sauted garlic is bitter, so add it later or stick with garlic powder. Large containers (like the ones shown of oregano or chopped onion) of spice powders can sometimes be had for very low prices - got my current chili powder at a clearance at Kroger for $1. Commercial chili powder has some cumin in it, but I add more.
I don't think you really need the potato starch - it was probably added to the packaged mix as filler. I've already got all the ingredients in my cupboard - I'm averse to adding another container to hold mix 'x' unless I use it on a nearly daily basis, and nothing qualifies currently. The only thing I can really think of would be something like the flavored coffee mixes if you used them every day.
tacos for a snack sounds wonderful!
I just season as I brown my meat, but it would be convenient to have a spice mix ready to go. Thanks for sharing!
