Once Upon A Time There Was A Retard….

Such is the tag line to a new, big budget, R-rated summer movie opening this week. “Tropic Thunder” is a comedy produced by DreamWorks/Paramount, and directed and written by Ben Stiller, who also stars in the movie.

The plot includes a group of pampered actors, lost in the jungle while making a war movie. Tugg Speedman, Ben Stiller’s character, is a fading action hero who missed his Oscar opportunity with his portrayal of Simple, a character with an intellectual disability. Speedman’s portrayal of Simple is a movie within the movie, “Simple Jack.”

Already “Tropic Thunder” has presented audiences with a new go to phrase, “Never Go Full Retard.

A comment of interest..."A" has a point, I am just posting in support. I am not raging or in raged over it. Just upset by the term.

"You might want to get your facts straight. The tag line "Once Upon A Time, There Was A Retard," is not the tag line for Tropic Thunder. The tagline is for a FAKE movie called "Simple Jack," which is part of a small backstory in the movie Tropic Thunder."

Go watch a preview or read some of the news you're so angry about before you blow your load."

Dear "A"....Thank you for sharing your view, point well taken." I will need to take more time out to do that.A question for you Dear "A",..."Do YOU have any special needs children?"Have you ever encountered the hurt in the eyes of a "special needs kid or adult when they were minimized and ridiculed? If so I wonder what you would say to them to help them overcome the ignorance? Would you then desire to educate the ignorant who hurt them (whether intentionally or not)? As a parent of one who is "different", I have wept with her. As a teacher of those who were "different" I have watched their crest fallen spirits when they do a simple task( that we take for granted), when they are then minimized in the midst of the struggle.

So I suppose a have a box to stand on. More fortunate then some who are "different", in that I can stand, speak and articulate the pain I have not only witnessed but have spent many an hour consoling.

I am not blowing my load,

I am carrying theirs.

Forgive the strife folks I have to speak on this one.

"A" My feeling are strong but I do appriciate your point.

This tag line can be seen under the poster advertising Tropic Thunder. It is 100% associated with Tropic Thunder, as is the phrase "Never Go Full Retard."

I urge anyone to go and watch the previews of this movie. And my points in my post for 5MFM will be made in spades.

Simple Jack is a movie within Tropic Thunder. Between the two the word 'retard' is used several times.

There are those who previewed this movie even before it's release on Monday.

Don't you love anonymous comments?

Thank you so much for supporting my post and the quest we are on to educate others about the harm caused by the word 'retard.'

I have a mentally handicapped son and the tag line NO MATTER WHERE it is used is offensive to me!!!!

Older women likewise teach the younger women...

• how to love their husbands
• how to love their children
• how to be self-controlled
• how to be pure
• how to be keepers at home
• how to be kind and submissive (not subservient) to their own husbands. (See Titus 2:3-5)

'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Words have power. Here are a few of my favorite sayings.

  • A warm cup of tea is like a cuddle with a friend.
  • The North American Indians have a more eloquent word for ‘friend’ than we do in English. In their language, the word for friend literally means, “the one who carries my sorrows on his back.”
  • Return with Honor
  • The sage anticipates things that are difficult while they are easy, and does things that would become great while they are small. All difficult things in the world are sure to arise from a previous state in which they were easy, and all great things from one in which they were small. Therefore the sage, while he never does what is great, is able on that account to accomplish the greatest things."
  • "HOME IS WHERE YOUR STORY BEGINS"
  • “Live so that when your children hear these words they think of you… Fairness Caring Integrity Honesty Love Trust.”
  • "O Lord help my words to be gracious and tender today, for tomarrow I may have to eat them."
  • "No man has ever been shot while doing the dishes"
