Thirteen things I love about Summer in the Desert

1) I passed a sign that said 118* yesterday and I experienced being amazed. Amazement is a wonderful distraction :)

2) I loved the last few week working on my attitude to be able to even come up with this list.

3) "Early " mornings outside are quiet and nice. (until the neighborhood Landscapers arrive)
I can get the lawn mowed

3) In the mornings after the lawns mowed Water play with the kids and the hose.

4) NO BUGS (blood suckers, ticks and the like), as long as the neighbors keep their pool clean and the standing water up, except the ants

5) Pretending like I'm snow bound and doing lots of craft projects because its so cold outside.Lots of supplies for projects so I don't have to go out. Lots of groceries in the freezer so I don't have to go out. If I do the stores are cold in the freezer sections. I get jobs done that I put off when I can be outdoors in the late fall/winter/spring.

6) I love the summer rains when we are not in a drought.

7)My sunflowers are lovely.

8) Less laundry because shorts and sleeveless tops make smaller piles (in theory).

9)Air conditioning and the ability to pay the bill for it.

10) Staying home and being calm without all the running around (There are less people out when your on the roads, all the tourist have gone home).

11) Ice water, opening the freezer to get the ice is a treat.

12) My car in the garage cools down faster and my hands don't get burnt.Air conditioning in my car and not having to depend on a bus or others.

13) Lazy days that have an excuse (the heat wears you out) Planning gardens for the fall .

OK, I thought it was hot out here in western Colorado but you have me beaten, Donetta. My word, that's TOO hot and yes, air conditioning is a blessing.

Thank you so much for your kind words on my post about Rob losing his job. Finding out a new grandchild is on the way softens th blow a little, but it's very frightening to be 63 and looking for work. Your words were a comfort to me.

I can so relate to #13. Tomorrow, the kids and I are going to make homemade icecream.
You did a great job for a first T13 list, and your Sunflowers are very lovely.

Let Becca know that I love this doll. I'd love to go scuba diving one of these days. :)

Stay cool.

How wonderful you guessed that She did the doll, she had so much fun doing it. It is a special time sorta thing we do together.
I appreciate the encouragement you afford me. BIG HUG !

Older women likewise teach the younger women...

• how to love their husbands
• how to love their children
• how to be self-controlled
• how to be pure
• how to be keepers at home
• how to be kind and submissive (not subservient) to their own husbands. (See Titus 2:3-5)

'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Words have power. Here are a few of my favorite sayings.

  • A warm cup of tea is like a cuddle with a friend.
  • The North American Indians have a more eloquent word for ‘friend’ than we do in English. In their language, the word for friend literally means, “the one who carries my sorrows on his back.”
  • Return with Honor
  • The sage anticipates things that are difficult while they are easy, and does things that would become great while they are small. All difficult things in the world are sure to arise from a previous state in which they were easy, and all great things from one in which they were small. Therefore the sage, while he never does what is great, is able on that account to accomplish the greatest things."
  • "HOME IS WHERE YOUR STORY BEGINS"
  • “Live so that when your children hear these words they think of you… Fairness Caring Integrity Honesty Love Trust.”
  • "O Lord help my words to be gracious and tender today, for tomarrow I may have to eat them."
  • "No man has ever been shot while doing the dishes"
